NVOCC

Our NVOCC status is filed with the FMC under the name RADO LOGISTICS, INC.
When an "OTI" takes a number of small shipments and consolidates them as a single, large shipment, they are acting as a Non-Vessel Operating Common Carrier. Or "NVOCC".

Small shippers, with less-than-container load (LCL) shipments, can take advantage of the lower cost associated with being a big shipper. NVOCCs book spaces on steamships in large quantities at lower rates and then sell space to shippers in smaller amounts. NVOCCs consolidate small shipments into a container load, which moves under one bill of lading. More favorable rates are passed on to the shipper. NVOCCs operate as carriers and should be evaluated by applying the same service, price and delivery standards.

The Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) must approve an NVOCC and this approval is gained by:

The filing of a tariff (price list and terms) in an electronic medium (Internet).

Filing of a surety bond in the amount of $ 125,000.00 as a financial guarantee to the general public.

The NVOCC's operations must conform to guidelines set out by the FMC.

The bills of lading issued by an NVOCC have the same importance as those issued by vessel operators.
